How to Promote Your Website
Creating awareness of your website and online presence can be split into two methods:
- On-site promotion
- Off-site promotion
On-Site Promotion
On-site web promotion is also known as SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). It is anything you can do, technical and non-technical, on your own website to improve your website’s quality of content and best position in organic search engine results. This will drive more quality traffic to your website from the visitors you want to attract.
Off-Site Promotion
Off-site web promotion is a form of digital marketing. Also called SEM (Search Engine Marketing), it is paid search or PPC (Pay-Per-Click) and is commonly used in combination with on-site web promotion.
Because of this overlap, although PPC does get you on SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages), they are not considered organic or natural results, which get listed using on-site methods.
Another off-site strategy is web marketing, for example generating exposure through social media, blogging, press releases, viral videos, podcasts etc.
Link Building
Link building is one of the best ways to get good organic search results. It involves getting reputable websites to link back to your website. You need to obtain legitimate links (not spam or from link farms) otherwise your website may get penalised by some search engines.
